President, Tecan Americas

The President is responsible for the financial and market performance of Tecan USA, as measured by organic growth, margin expansion, and measured cash flow. The President is accountable for building and executing a business strategy through the leadership team of cross functions comprising Commercial, Marketing, Operations, QA/RA & R&D with functional support for IT, HR, & Finance.

 

The President is critical in maximizing ROI through implementing world-class product development and launch processes, high-impact global product positioning and promotion programs, and directing strong alignment between product management, marketing communications, sales, and commercial leadership functions. The President must work effectively in a matrix management environment and cooperation with broader stakeholders including internal and external channel partners.

As the President of Tecan Americas, you must be a hands-on leader willing to roll up your sleeves to drive a fully integrated operational and strategic plan globally. As a high-level summary, the President is responsible for the following nationally:

 

• Accountable for the overall business performance of Tecan’s Life Science Business (LSB)
• Accountable for all direct sales and back-office operations - direct reporting line
• Responsible for all Service, Finance, HR, IT, and QARA - direct reporting line
• Responsible for the support of the Partnering Business (PB)

 

Your contribution

• Define and achieve strategic and financial goals, including organic growth, profitability, and cash flow.
• Define and implement long-term strategic initiatives to drive inorganic growth, including but not limited to M&A.
• Identify products, technologies, and capabilities needed to advance market position; perform make/buy/partner analyses to identify investment priorities.
• Influence the product life cycle and technology development roadmap for future investments, which are linked to the market-driven customer needs of each business segment.
• Increase global field launch effectiveness through management processes that align product management, marketing development, and commercial leadership.
• Lead annual strategic planning process for the division, defining five-year strategies and key business initiatives to meet strategic goals.
• Leverage systematic and agile programs to conduct comprehensive market/competitive analysis to support sales and incorporate that information into future action plans.
• Build effective relationships with customers, strategic partners, and cross-functional leaders to ensure targeted goals are met.
• Drive change management initiatives and champion a Practical Process Improvement environment.
• Leverage the Tecan value proposition to optimize impact on the customer experience and business results.
• Manage relationships with channel partners while optimizing channel mix (distributors, direct sales, e-business) and price.
• Own quality management and regulatory strategy and compliance for the entire portfolio.

 

Your background

• A bachelor’s degree in relevant fields, such as Science, Business Administration, or similar, is required; an MBA is preferred.
• 10-15 years of industry experience in a senior management role with a proven track record of driving sales growth and business expansion, preferably in life--science-related industries.
• P&L experience, including 5-10 years of full P&L responsibility for a matrixed national organization.
• 10+ years of distributor management, ensuring smooth operations and streamlining to maximize profitability while pursuing strategic expansion opportunities.  Maintain and grow productive and professional relationships.
• Fluent in English, both spoken and written.  German language proficiency is a plus.

• Ability to recognize and solve potential problems, demonstrating business safety and integrity.
• Strong analytical capability and experience.
• Solve business issues by managing costs and risks.
• Demonstrated track record of success leading businesses to profitable global growth and market share leadership positions, including specific examples of product line revitalization and new product platform launches.
• Significant financial acumen to evaluate business plans, contributions, and risk, including an understanding of operational finance (e.g., cost accounting and revenue recognition).
• Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, plus demonstrate strong leadership capabilities.
• Strong organizational skills.
• Ability to launch and deliver multiple projects on time and within the budget.
• Ability to collaborate with the existing management by being a good listener, team builder and articulate/advocate the vision.
• Ability to work well under pressure.
• Substantial travel (50%) between international, regional, and local offices.
• Mature and balanced business personality of locally, convincing, non-political, and trustworthy with high ethical standards.
• Strong integrative skills are very diplomatic, modest, and pragmatic.
• Brilliant, effective communicator and persuasive presenter.
• Stress resistant to a very high degree with high flexibility, fast thinker, and "doer."
